How do you control pests?

At the Achiltibuie Garden, as with our previous business at the hydroponicum, we use no chemical pesticides on the food crops we grow here. Instead, we use natural methods of pest control by introducing other insects to eat the pests.  Several species of predators and parasites arrive by post and are released into the greenhouses at intervals through the season to forage for their prey.  The species of predator is generally very specific to the pest we want to control and when a population has built up they provide a highly efficient alternative to pesticides.
