Want to grow lettuce but perhaps you hate weeding or don't have a garden? This kit enables you to produce a continuous supply of fresh salad leaves all year round. Heads of lettuce can be produced in as little as three weeks from the seedling stage. With successional planting it is possible to crop two lettuces a week during the summer months. Cut-and-come-again salad leaves (such as rocket or chinese mustard) can be picked continuously.
Seedlings of lettuce or other salad leaves are raised in a minipropagator and are planted into 2" net pots of Hydroton (clay pellets) which fit into holes in a polystyrene sheet. The Raft floats in the growing tray (dimensions are 38cm x 57cm or 15" x 22½") which is filled with liquid feed. A low powered air pump keeps the nutrient solution well oxygenated allowing healthy white feeding roots to grow directly into the tray. Simply replant a seedling every time you harvest a head of lettuce.
The kit has everything to start you off including full instructions. All you need is some seeds of your favourite salad leaves, a brightly lit site indoors (conservatory, greenhouse or just a windowsill) with enough space to site the tray and a mains power supply nearby.
