The troughs are linked by pipes using push-fit connections, to a pump in the nutrient supply tank. The Winds 400 pump is highly reliable and economical and can be run continuously for just a few pence per week. The pump lifts the nutrient solution into the first trough at the hightest point of the system. When the first trough is filled to the 1cm deep overflow, the nutrient passes on to the next trough, unit all troughs are shallow filled. Nutrient solution then drains back by gravity from the lowest trough to the tank where it is re-circulated. The nutrient tank can be connected to a water supply (mains or rain butt) to allow constant top-up of the system, even when the unit is unattended. A float valve is supplied for this purpose, together with all pipework and fittings to complete a circular or single line trough system. The simple assembly is shown in the instruction leaflet. In the event of a power failure, or if the pump is switched off for any reason, the troughs and pots each retain several days’ feed reserve.

The popular hydroponic trough (L 67cm x W 17cm x H 11.5cm), accommodates up to 4 pyramid pots.
An aluminium bracing strip slides along the trough wall to any convenient position, preventing wall bulge in the heat of summer when supporting heavy plants in pyramid pots. The troughs are drilled to accept grommets which allow them to be joined together with pipes.
For a stand-alone single trough system they are supplied with a pair of overflow plugs.
For linking together in a larger system Troughs are supplied with open rubber grommets (use 16mm pipe for instant push in connections).

Designed for using our Pyramid Pots in larger systems.
For the grower who wants to grow on a larger scale these channels are suitable for use in greenhouses, conservatories and poly tunnels. They can be laid on greenhouse staging, on the ground or even wall mounted.
The robust channels are specifically designed to hold our unique pyramid pots with two grooves to allow the wicks to lie in the nutrient flow. Supplied in 3 metre lengths they provide the easiest solution to setting up a larger system involving less plumbing and easier cleaning. Lengths of channel can be easily joined together to form longer channels.
End pieces can be sealed onto the channel and nutrient supply fittings are easily connected. These channels have been in use in the Hydroponicum at Achiltibuie for well over ten years and with care they will last many more years.
The channels can be used to customise a system of any size and we can design and cost a complete system to your requirements.
Each 3 metre length can hold a maximum of 17 pyramid pots but remember larger plants require the pots to be spaced out so allow for fewer pots.
