Welcome to Achiltibuie Garden
With over 20 years experience in hydroponics for amateur gardeners who want to grow their own vegetables, salads, herbs and fruit, we hope our website inspires you! For those of you who were expecting to see 'The Hydroponicum', don't worry, you've reached the right site - same people, new site, new name.
If you're interested in 'growing your own', hydroponics is a great method to use. With ongoing concerns about pesticide residues, air miles and carbon footprint, the only way to guarantee healthy, affordable, delicious fruit and vegetables is to grow them for yourself. Even if you've only got a windowsill you can set up a hydroponics kit so that you can grow and pick your own fresh salad or herbs.
It's very simple and easy to use hydroponics, and you'll find that your plants grow more quickly than those grown in soil. Not only that, you'll get a higher yield in a shorter time and because you can pick your crops at their optimum ripeness, they have a great flavour.
No soil is needed for hydroponics, and there's no digging or weeding involved, so it's a good way to grow if you find traditional gardening a struggle – hydroponics is suitable for all abilities and ages. Hydroponics is a closed system, so all water is recirculated, thus conserving water and ensuring that nutrients do not leach into the environment.
Don't just take our word for it: if you're visiting our beautiful area of Scotland, you can taste our delicious produce for yourself because we sell a large variety of tasty, high-yielding herbs, salads, fruit and vegetables, both directly from our growing houses and via our local shops.
Of course, if you can't manage to visit us, our online shop has all you need: we sell a range of hydroponic kits, growing media, nutrients, accessories and books - in fact, everything you need whether you're growing in a greenhouse, conservatory or on a kitchen windowsill! We can also design a customised system to fit your growing space: contact us for more details. Although we use a secure server, we do understand that not everyone wants to order online. If you prefer, you can download a price list and order form to complete and send to us. Click here for more details.
You'll find information on our site about hydroponic growing media, nutrients and growing systems, as well as help with propagation. If you know what you want to grow, or you want some ideas of what will grow well in a hydroponic system, have a look at ‘Which kit should I buy?’, or contact us for advice. We’re always happy to talk to our customers, new and old, so please do get in touch if you need any advice.
